Published by C.King, M.Ed. under Addiction Articles

EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL ON WOMEN
As men and women are biologically different so the effect of alcohol on women is also different as compared to men. It doesn’t matter even if they take the same amount or same kind of alcohol but the after effect will always differ and this is because women have more fats in their body as compared to men. Since due to fats the alcohol doesn’t get absorbed, it remains in the blood at a higher proportion. The gastric or stomach enzyme which breaks down the alcohol before it enters the blood fluid of the body is also less in women. And due to this 30% of alcohol is absorbed more by women in compare to men. Another reason for the worst effect of alcohol on women is because they usually have shorter height than men thus concentrating more blood. So one drink taken by a woman is equal to two drinks of a man. If drink is taken in empty stomach or stomach with less food then the complexity increases.

The effect of alcohol metabolism is at a higher point during menstrual cycle because of the change in hormone. So all those women who think that they can equally as men are putting themselves in danger. Though men and women have different effects of alcohol but this doesn’t apply for alcohol beverages. Drinks like beer or wine contains equal amount of alcohol.

Many organizations have put down points of the higher danger for drinking women.
The way alcohol is metabolized and absorbed inside the body of a woman is different than a man as the proportion of water inside women is less than men so the concentration of alcohol in women is more in women than men.

The removal of alcohol is faster in women than men also due to which the pressure on lever is more.
Women have higher tendency to gain liver disease that occurs due to consumption of alcohol.
Women who drive after drinking are more close to accidents than men because of higher concentration of alcohol in the blood.

The rate of accidents by women after drinking is going up day by day as compared to the accidents happened by men after drinking.

All women who start drinking before the age of 15 have more possibility of becoming addicted to alcohol and become dependent on it thus they need to go through diagnosis.
At a tender age, women who have been sexually tortured have more chances of getting addicted to alcohol which may become a problem after they turn into adult.
